Google and Facebook Come Together to Secure Your Device Data Honeypot

3 min read
The fear of losing data, photos, and videos from the mobile phone is a perennial one. Many of us dread that very thought. Fear of losing the phone or having the phone go dead are the causes for such losses. Thankfully now with Android phones, those fears have been laid to rest albeit partially, due to two technological giants, Facebook and Google collaborating. You can now use the Whatsapp utility of your Android phone to take online backup of all data. This means all Whatsapp related data can be backed up to the Google Drive repository, lending you that mental peace you have been longing for. Now whether you lose your phone or find it dead one fine day, you do not have to worry about Whatsapp data getting lost.

Memories remain alive for that nostalgic experience

Mobile phones today, thanks to their very capable camera functions bring to hand memories in sharp detail. Those precious moments spent with family and other loved ones including friends on a party, a get together can all be wistfully enjoyed all over again, with just a look at the photos and videos of those events. Whatsapp has been a key enabler for people who wish to share these experiences in the last couple of years and therefore it is a wonderful initiative on the part of Facebook and Google to facilitate easy backup for Android users. There are those who may argue that such a basic facility should have been introduced long back. Having said that, it is gratifying the two companies have endeavored to come up with a backup function on the Google Drive platform that would be seamless onto another device, not requiring more than a couple of touches. The new feature will get rolled out in due course and will get displayed on the Whatsapp settings.

Huge database of Whatsapp users

With over 900 million users and counting as this is being written and a majority on the Android platform, the new backup facility along with proper encryption security will be more than welcomed by users. This integration with Google Drive represents a move that will bring the native and stock Android experience to users with an opportunity to scale further as per the needs. The latest version of Whatsapp offering this facility would be available for download on the Play Store. Google through this partnership with Face book is in a position now to woo many other Android developers onto their platform for the tremendous visibility and access they would get for their apps. Face book on the other hand could have let Whatsapp users back up directly into Face book and need not have gone through Google Drive. Maybe they do not want to disturb or spook the user base already acquired doing something that may be seen as unfriendly or snoopy. For users, this is very good news and something they have been wanting for a long time.
