Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Easily Passes Bend Test Which Destroyed the iPhone 6 Plus

2 min read
If you’re gone on any tech news sites over the past week, then you’ve probably seen the “bendgate” scandal involving the iPhone 6 Plus. For those who missed it, the iPhone 6 Plus uses a thin, malleable metal frame. This frame bends when placed in users’ pockets. It also bends when you gently apply force to the front or back of the phone using your thumb. That’s bad. Apple not only sacrificed battery life when they made a ridiculously thin phone: but they also sacrificed structural integrity. Apple fans are already claiming that the issue is overblown and unrealistic. Those people are wrong, because the iPhone 6 Plus may be the most malleable phone ever made (to my knowledge, no other phone has faced the same “bending” complaints simply from being placed in someone’s pocket). That’s why it’s refreshing to see how easily the Note 3 passes the “bend” test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwM4ypi3at0&list=UUsTcErHg8oDvUnTzoqsYeNw That bend test comes from Unbox Therapy, the same guy who tested the iPhone 6 Plus. Look at how red his thumbs get when he’s pressing down! I’m a big Android fan but I couldn’t believe the phone survived that test. I would be terrified to do that to my Android. He put some genuine torque into it. The phone bent during the test but easily reverted back to its same flat shape.

“That is as hard as I can push”

At the end of the video, Unbox Therapy genuinely looks like he’s trying to break the device. Unless he’s using some video tricks, he doesn’t look like some tiny man, either. He looks like he can apply more than enough force to break a phone. In that video, Unbox Therapy also reveals that his iPhone 6 Plus screen cracked after trying to bend the phone back. In other words, if you bent your iPhone 6 Plus, you shouldn’t try to bend it back because it will almost definitely break. We’ll have to wait and see what happens with the Note 4. But if the Note 3 is any indication, it’s going to be the best phablet of the year by far.
