ASUS ROG Phone 2 is now out and an official overkill – here’s why
3 min read
Last week, we heard rumors about the ASUS ROG Phone 2 is coming out soon, apparently, those rumors have finally shed a light and the most anticipated ultra-gaming phone sequel is finally out.
Here’s everything you need to know about the game-centric ASUS ROG Phone 2:
Familiar, but different
At first glance, the new ROG Phone will look exactly the same as the 2018 release, with the same metallic edge design and glowing ROG logo in the back, but in further inspection, you’ll notice it’s actually quite different.
The ROG Phone 2 is bigger than the previous one with 6.59-inch display and has a 19:5:9 aspect ratio. The screen is equipped with the latest Gorilla Glass 6 – proves to be shatter-resistant if you drop the phone.
Moreover, the phone has the first 120Hz AMOLED panel in any Android phone! This could mean that the animations will be smooth and buttery, and the phone’s brightness will be adequate. Asus claims the display has 1ms of response time after registering an input.
Everything is new and massive
ASUS ROG Phone 2 has a 240Hz touch response rate. With this and the 120Hz display, power, of course, is in demand and that’s why the device is packed with a massive 6,000mAh battery – one of the largest we’ve seen in an Android phone that comes along the package. What’s even better is the phone supports 30-watt quick charging.
It is also the first device running with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC, which has a four percent faster CPU and 15 percent faster GPU than the standard Snapdragon 855. And just like the previous phone, ASUS has equipped the new device with great cooling capabilities. There is a 3D vapor chamber in the phone, as well as vents inside and on the back, and the external active cooler that attaches to the outside of the phone which can probably maintain 98 percent FPS stability with zero throttling.
Other specs include 12GB of LPDDR4 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage, making the ROG Phone 2 the second device available with this faster storage type. You’ll also get four 802.11ad Wi-Fi antennas, an optical in-display fingerprint reader, and a new generation of touch-triggers on the side of the device for games. For audio, you’ve got a headphone jack and the front-facing stereo speakers. This thing is stacked.
One of the most exciting changes in the ROG Phone 2 is the option to use ZenUI 6 – a simpler Android skin we’ve seen in Asus devices. You still have the option to use the edgier ROG launcher, but ZenUI 6 is probably the perfect combination with this kind of power.
Price, Availability, and Accessories
Like the usual, Asus has packed the ROG Phone 2 with lots of accessories upon purchase. There is a total of 8 accessories coming along your phone:
- AeroActive Cooler II
- Aero Case
- TwinView Dock II
- ROG Kunai Gamepad
- Mobile Desktop Dock
- Pro Dock
- WiGig Display Dock Plus
- ROG Lighting Armor Case
