Google Android Lion vs Apple iOS 8: Which Upgrade is a True Upgrade?

3 min read
The speculation about what the new Google Android OS is going to be called persists and the latest is that it may be called Android Lion. It is also speculated it will tie up with Nestle, the consumer foods giant, famous for its Lion Bar snacks. Be that as it may, there is also interest centered on the release of the Apple iOS 8. The question now is whether an Android user must make the switch to the iOS 8 and vice versa. Which is the better system and why?

Android L – A Huge Google Leap

The launch of the Android L will represent a major initiative taken by Google to bring about standardization of an ecosystem that will synchronize platforms across different devices. These include the smart phone, tablet, wearables, computers and even TVs. The new Material Design is the highlight of this system. Android will sport a flatter and mean look with more depth. The interface elements will have a 3D element about them giving users an experience that is intuitive. Animation and other lighting effects too will be radically different and exciting. Google believes all this should enable it to woo consumers.

The Apple iOS 8 Features

However, much of the above is something that the Apple iOS already boasts of and also has more friendly features for the consumer like third party keyboard help, mail app, cloud drive, health app and so on. The iCloud Photo Library along with the QuickType keyboard continues to appeal to consumers and the new health app has made the iOS a much better system as compared to the Android in its current form. Apple is also attempting to bridge the gap with Google on apps by providing its developers tools that enable them to make applications, more suited to managing the health data for consumers and help them manage home devices.

Reconciling Existing Gaps In Operating System

Both are trying to enhance user experience even further by going in for platform unity across devices. They are attempting to close the gaps existing in their current operating systems to make it leaner, faster and even more intuitive for the consumer such that he or she feels no differences in performance when using any of the gadgets. Apple has the edge at the moment due to its already unified ecosystem. Google has caught up wonderfully well with its Chrome product and wider reach. Its existing market share of over 80% in the smart phone segment due to its various Android versions gives it an advantage that Apple will find tough to cover up. At the same time, Apple is better with its enterprise products and enjoys a presence there along with Microsoft that Google will find difficult to catch up too soon.   The stage is therefore set for an exciting fight and consumers will be the beneficiaries as they get the best of both products at prices that are affordable.
