Google Moves One Step Closer to World Domination, Buys Artificial Intelligence Firm for $400 Million
2 min read
Over the past two decades, Google has grown from an insignificant web startup to one of the most powerful companies in the world.
Google’s meteoric rise to superstardom has introduced some concerns. At first, Google was everybody’s favorite friendly search engine. Then, Google started selling advertising space on its search engine results Then it built the world’s most popular smartphone OS, bought the world’s most popular video sharing website, and made Google+ usage mandatory for nearly every internet user.
Clearly, Google is trying to take over the world.
That’s why this latest news is so concerning: Google has reportedly purchased an artificial intelligence firm for $400 million. DeepMind, a London-based artificial intelligence company, is one of the AI industry’s leaders. The company’s 50 employees have been highly sought-after in recent years by both Google and Facebook.
DeepMind is led by Demis Hassabis, who is a genius in every sense of the word. Hassabis is a neuroscientist and former child chess prodigy who reached the rank of chess master at the age of 13. His startup, Deep Mind, is only 2 years old.
What will Google do with DeepMind?
Unconfirmed reports state that the artificial intelligence firm will immediately begin working at Google’s secret underground headquarters in Mountain View, California. The artificial intelligence will likely be used to power Google’s deadly droid army, which reportedly numbers in the millions. Other, more substantial reports suggest that Google will use DeepMind’s AI professionals to improve its Android services like Google Now, but that’s way less exciting. This news comes from multiple industry sources including Forbes, which claims that Google confirmed the purchase but failed to specify a price. The buyout was also reportedly led by Google CEO Larry Page himself. Apparently, one of the flagship DeepMind products in development is an e-commerce recommendation system. A robot telling you exactly what to buy online? That sounds like something Google would love. Stay tuned for the official purchase report over the coming weeks. This will be Google’s largest European acquisition in history. One Click Root Author
