Google Now Poised to Become Your Android's New Digital Concierge

3 min read
The Android OS has become one of the most sought after mobile platforms across the world with Google enjoying a market share of over 85%. Many have already pointed out the flexibility of the system, the abundance of wonderful apps, and the consistent stream of updates as the key reasons driving its success. One of the apps that merit mention is Google Now. When it was first launched, it was more than clear that it would hog attention of Android users and would go on to become immensely popular.

Google improves on Google Now

Indeed, it has already become a very powerful and user friendly digital assistant to many users. Google has gone a step further and launched the Google Now On Tap with its Marshmallow OS version and that is indeed a salivating prospect for many users. Google Now itself seemed so complete that any improvement seemed very unlikely. But now with this new offering, Google has served the ultimate digital concierge to its users. Google Now On Tap in contrast to the Google Now, which was an app will actually be a core constituent of the Android platform and that is why this mobile innovation is such an exciting development for users.

How will it actually work then?

Those of you used to the Google Now will have to forget about it for a moment to understand how this is going to be of use. Remember, since it is not just an app, it is designed to give you a lot of information through the opening of a card on your screen. For instance, if you are on an app about the review of a film, the Google Now On Tap will tell you the show times, give a link for booking a ticket and so on. Similarly, if you are looking for information about which restaurant is open and its menu, you will get to even make the reservation through the card info that will pop up. Basically, this one is a comprehensive news and information provider on tap for you. Currently it is focused on text only but Google is planning to expand the scope and reach of this wonderful feature to include voice commands.

So what about the privacy of the user?

Rest assured, this will not get into your private space till you ask it to by holding down the home button of your device. Google is also ensuring sensitive information does not get revealed or exposed and has also assured users that any data that the feature uses will get discarded immediately post the usage. It will be zero retention of history. That is quite comforting to know. The Google Now On Tap will also be optional for the user. If you do not want Google to be listening in, you can opt out. You can toggle between Google Now and Google Now On Tap to enjoy both of them and recognize how wonderfully Google has been able to make a complete digital concierge available to you.
