How to Easily Manage Default Apps on Android

2 min read
Managing default apps on Android doesn’t have to be hard. Today, we’re going to show you how to easily manage default Android apps using one third-party app. Typically, most of us learn how to manage default apps when we accidentally choose the wrong app after playing a new type of file. Whether that happened to you or not, here’s how to easily manage default apps on Android.

Changing Application Defaults Using Android Lollipop

If you don’t want to install third-party apps, then you can easily change application defaults from your Android settings menu. It just takes a few taps. Here’s how to do it in Lollipop: Step 1) Go into Settings and tap on Apps Step 2) Swipe left and right to change the list and filter between Downloaded, Running, and All apps. Scroll down until you see the app whose defaults you want to clear, then tap the app and tap Clear defaults. It’s definitely a more labor intensive process than Marshmallow, which we’ll talk about next.

Changing Defaults in Android Marshmallow

Step 1) Open Settings Step 2) Tap Apps Step 3) Tap the gear icon in the upper right corner to access the settings menu Step 4) Tap default apps Step 5) Choose the default app you want to replace Step 6) Choose the app you want to use as your new default app From that point forward, your new app will open automatically for the task you selected. Alternatively, if you don’t want to mess with either of these settings menus, then you can install third party apps.

How to Manage App Defaults Using Default App Manager Lite

Default App Manager Lite is a free app from the Play Store. You can download it here. After the app is installed, open it. You’ll see a selection of basic tasks and apps. Tap any app on the list, then select the default task. You can also view all default app associations by tapping All Defaults in the upper part of the screen. Or, remove a default app association using the Clear button. Thanks to Marshmallow, managing app defaults is pretty simple. But if you’re the type of person who likes to use an app to get things done, then that’s okay too. Follow one of the above guides to manage app defaults today.
